Advanced Teaching Excellence Through Open Education Research
Introduction
Teacher candidates are strategically positioned to advance the potentials of open education as they are both student and teacher during their programs of study. They have an opportunity to learn, experiment, practice, and receive feedback before they are fully staffed as teachers.
- In this research we seek to empower teacher candidates (future educators) to learn, experiment, practice, and receive feedback on open education in practice.
- The research also seeks to mitigate the barriers of engagement with open education such as non-availability in curriculum, lack of structure etc.
- This project aims to practically showcase the strategic position and impact teacher candidates have in turning open education to practice and advancing the potentials of open education at K-12 schools.
- This project seeks to make all resources of this project available under CC-BY license for exploration, research and adoption by institutions and teacher education programs globally.
In executing the research, the following were carried out:
- A Short Survey https://forms.gle/Egngo98pyxNBMRiq6 for Teacher Educators was administered in which Teacher Educators were surveyed on their understanding and application of Open Education. The instrument used was adapted from a similar research by Dr. Michael Paskevicius, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Victoria
- A Short Course on Open Education for Teacher Candidates was organized. The short course adapted the material by Creative Commons Certificate Course for Educators and added a unit on Artificial Intelligence for Google for Education.
- Two workshops were organized. The first was exclusively for Teacher Educators. The title of the workshop was Digital literacies in open educational contexts for Teacher Educators. A communique will be published shortly.
- The second workshop organized for both Teacher Candidates and Teacher Educators was titled Open Education and Artificial Intelligence in educational context.
